QA Hospital fits new mobile writing desks by David Bailey

QA Hospital fits out entire site with new mobile writing desks

Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth has ordered 112 of David Bailey Furniture Systems new mobile writing desks  – the latest addition to the leading healthcare furniture manufacturer’s popular Healthline range.

The mobile hospital writing desks will be used by QA Hospital’s nursing staff throughout the entire 1,200-bed hospital to improve the speed and efficiency of taking notes at patients’ bedsides.

Trevor Gillman, Managing Director at David Bailey Furniture Systems, said: “Hospital trusts banning nursing staff from sitting on patients’ beds has not only dehumanised the patient/doctor relationship but has made it much more difficult for nursing staff to take important notes in ward areas.

“We designed our new mobile writing desk for hospitals to help address this issue and make it easier for nursing staff to monitor the wellbeing of patients and write up notes by patients’ besides.

“Swivel castors on the base of the units, make it easy for staff to move the writing desks across the ward – we generally recommend one writing desk for every four to six beds.”

Following QA Hospital’s initial enquiry, David Bailey Furniture Systems built a prototype of its new mobile hospital writing desk, which was sent off to the Trust Board for approval to replace all existing note-taking desks throughout the entire hospital.

Impressed with the high quality design, the Trust quickly approved the purchase of 112 mobile writing desks which David Bailey Furniture Systems is manufacturing to order with different coloured bands on the front panel for the different ward areas, to prevent the desks being moved between departments.
