About this project
As a result of the Welsh government awarding £220m funding, we were selected by main contractor, Tilbury Douglas, to provide healthcare furniture for the newly refurbished Prince Charles Hospital, in Merthyr Tydfil. This is part of a multi-phase project, the second phase of which we have completed for five wards at the hospital. The total value of our part of the project is £195,000.
The overall contract will include renovations to the ground and first floors of the Prince Charles Hospital, refurbishing every ward. The aim of the scheme will be to improve patient care and the working environment for staff by creating a more modern and efficient healthcare setting. Operating theatres, critical care, radiology and outpatients’ services are among the departments set to benefit from the refurbishment.
Brendan O’Hara at Tilbury Douglas commented:
David Bailey always do a great job, we work well together. The operatives on site have always been very helpful and the installation went well.”
We are providing furniture for all areas of the newly refurbished hospital, including:
- Cynon ward
- MDTU units 2 & 3
- Medical Day Unit
- Block 9
- First floor admin offices
- Standard furniture, plus hooks, mirrors, grab rails
Healthcare furniture for Prince Charles Hospital
In 2020, the Welsh Health Minister awarded £220m in funding for the Princes Charles Hospital refurbishment. The funding was to further refurbish the ground and first floor, having previously benefited from £56m from the Welsh Government for previous phases of the programme. The project consists of redesigning and relocating departments in order to create more efficient and modern accommodation.
Services which will benefit from this investment include:
- Main Theatres
- Critical Care
- Oral Maxillofacial Services
- Day Theatres
- Blood Transfusion Departments
- Cardio Pulmonary Services (COPD)
- Diabetes Services
The scheme will provide a significant boost to the local economy and will see in excess of 80 apprenticeships created with over 60% of the workforce employed from Wales. The investment will also see 60% of the value of the construction programme being spent in Wales.
