Choosing infection control furniture that fits with industry standards

Choosing infection control furniture that fits with industry standards

Hospitals and healthcare environments have their own industry standards that must be adhered to when selling furniture to the industry. With the surge of Coronavirus over the last few months, infection control is more important than ever, and it is essential for hospital furniture to be compliant with HTM 63 and HTM 71. We look at choosing infection control furniture that fits in with industry standards.

HTM 63

HTM 63, originally designed by the Department of Health, sets out a range of storage units and worktops of unique design for use in healthcare primarily and manufactured specifically to withstand the rigours of a hospital environment. In the current pandemic situation hospitals and healthcare environments need to be taking every precaution they can to reduce the rate of infection from Coronavirus. Having furniture which meets the HTM 63 guidance will help prevent an increase in infections by allowing healthcare professionals to maintain suitable infection control standards, so it is incredibly important to ensure that all hospital furniture complies with this. Suppliers are often able to tailor their HTM 63 products to each hospital’s individual needs, particularly if it’s part of a larger contract, making it easier for healthcare providers to fulfil industry requirements.

HTM 71

HTM 71 relates to the modular storage trays that are used in healthcare and pharmaceutical environments. The guidance outlines that these storage trays can be supplied in an open format using liner or basket tray solutions, and that all storage should allow for easy access to and organisation of products and treatments. This is essential in allowing a healthcare environment to run smoothly, something which is incredibly important whilst in the midst of a pandemic in particular, as this allows healthcare professionals to go through their work routines without any problems. A wide range of HTM 71 suppliers exist, and many of them go above and beyond what is expected of them, so finding the right fit for your hospital should be an easy task.
