Wexham Park Hospital: Interior Design for Better Health
We are proud to have been awarded a £300k contract to supply fitted healthcare furniture to the new Emergency Department at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough, Berkshire. The company is experienced in big installations, including a project for Great Ormond Street Hospital. But, we are also highly skilled in undertaking fit-outs to GP surgeries, health centres and other smaller health-related facilities. The architect for the project was BDP and we were engaged by main contractor, Kier Construction. As part of the project we designed, bespoke manufactured in our factory in Kent, and installed units, worktops, mirrors, grab rails, curtain tracks and blinds on 5 floors at the hospital. The colour scheme was grey worktops with white doors.
Highly functional healthcare furniture
David Bailey knows that architects, designers and building contractors want highly functional healthcare furniture which provides day-to-day practical support within settings such as clinics, hospitals and nursing homes. But customer choice is gradually shifting away from the more traditional appearance that both patients and staff have been used to finding in healthcare. The dedicated and hard-working teams working in modern settings are increasingly demanding the ergonomic and attractive designs they see boosting wellbeing and recovery in many private hospitals. Patients know what good hospital design looks like, and they don’t want to settle for less.
Well-fitted reception areas relax patients
Importantly, placing fitted healthcare furniture into a wellbeing setting supports patients with their recovery every day. Welcoming aesthetics provide a helping back-drop for doctors and nurses. Short and long-stay patients feel comfortable and at home in their environment, and that is an important ingredient for recovery. What is more, well-fitted reception areas with the right colours can help to relax patients, lower tensions and de-stress staff.
HTM 63 & HTM 71 compliant furniture
User welfare is never sacrificed for style. Safety is one of David Bailey’s top priorities. Vulnerable or elderly patients often rely on the furniture installed around them to hold on to for support as they move about. It has to be stable and robust. Furniture that is used in hospitals and laboratories day after day can become a hotspot for bacteria and we understand the challenges of infection control. All furniture is HTM 63 and 71 compliant, non-porous and stain-resistant with sloping surfaces whenever practical.
British hospital furniture manufacturer
Hospitals and clinics will always need functional and comfortable furniture products. Increasingly they also want to deal with a British manufacturer who understands just how to integrate the contemporary feel into healthcare interior design. They know that good-looking fitted furniture really does make a difference to how they and their patients feel.
