David Bailey Furniture completes second stage of £500,000 investment programme

David Bailey, Britain’s fastest growing manufacturer of specialist furniture for the healthcare sector, has completed the second stage in a £500,000 investment programme. It follows three years of incredible growth which has seen the company expand its turnover 20% year on year.

The latest investment for the Broadstairs, Kent, based manufacturer – some £220,000 – will pay for three new machines, which will help to significantly speed up production and pave the way for new jobs as the company increases its presence in the healthcare market and expands into the booming education, veterinary, care homes and prison sectors.

“The investment will increase our overall production capacity by 25% and help us to significantly reduce waste,” said Trevor Gillman, managing director for David Bailey Furniture. “The new machinery is computer controlled and will help us to speed up each stage of the production process to meet the growing demand for our products.”

The new machines include a HOMAG B300 Beam Saw which will deliver better output and lower environmental impact; a HOMAG Drillteq V-500 Dowel Insertion Drill that drills holes and automatically inserts the dowels into the furniture and a HOMAG Cabteq S250 Carcass Press, which helps with the final production process.

David Bailey Furniture, which has been established for 40 years, employs 38 staff, is currently looking to take on up to six new workers and has vacancies for a further two apprentices.
Their Healthcare range of fitted furniture features within some of the country’s largest and most prestigious NHS and private hospitals. It is also regularly specified for other healthcare furniture projects from health centres and nursing homes to doctors’ surgeries and dental practices.

In more recent years the company has also significantly increased its presence in the schools and veterinary markets and is now a major supplier to the prisons sector and other growing niche markets.
