About this project

We have completed several fitted furniture contracts at Great Ormond Street Hospital in the past few years, in contracts totalling over £400,000. Working with contractors Balfour Beatty and Mansell, as well as architects Watkins Grey International, we have supplied furniture for refurbishments of the International Private Patient Suite, Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (PICU and NICU); the Dental and Maxillofacial Department; the Medical Illustration Offices; the Safari Day Care Centre for Haematology and Oncology; and the Louise, Penguin and Rainforest Wards in the Southwood Building.

Mansell’s Site Manager commented:

“As this refurbishment project incorporated such a range of areas in the hospital, it was important to select a furniture supplier that was able to offer a diverse product range. David Bailey Furniture Systems’ high quality storage units and custom-made pieces fitted the bill.”

Healthcare furniture at Great Ormond Street Hospital

The first phase of refurbishment included the Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (PICU and NICU); the Dental and Maxillofacial Department; the Medical Illustration Offices; the Safari Day Care Centre for Haematology and Oncology; and the Louise, Penguin and Rainforest Wards in the Southwood Building.

In addition to the base and wall storage units, worktops and shelving prescribed from the Healthline range, we also supplied custom-made nurse stations for the hospital’s reception areas.

The world-renowned International Centre of Excellence also invested in a thorough refurbishment of a number of its bedrooms; ensuring patient comfort and wellbeing remained a top priority. The furniture installation included tall units and bedside shelf units from our Healthcare range of HTM 63 fitted furniture, as well as bespoke integrated panels systems, designed to conceal all pipework in washroom areas creating a high-end hygienic finish.

Colin Jarrett, Contractor at Balfour Beatty commented on the refurbishment project:

“One of the most important factors in hospitals, especially in hospitals with such far-reaching clinical specialisms such as Great Ormond Street, is hygiene and privacy. The fitters at David Bailey are highly experienced in working in a live hospital environment. They understand the need to keep dust levels to a minimum, minimise patient disruption and strictly obey all access times.”

Healthcare furniture by David Bailey

The fitted healthcare furniture we supply is manufactured at our factory in Broadstairs, Kent. We provide specialist, HTM 63 and HTM 71 compliant furniture and storage units, specialising in the healthcare and hospital market. We have installed fitted healthcare furniture to many UK hospitals, health centres, clinics and GP surgeries, including Guys & St. Thomas Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, North Middlesex University Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital. Architects and Contractors rely on us because they know we are well established and professional and our durable furniture is manufactured in Britain with craftsmanship and professionalism. We also install our furniture into a facility, so there is no need to ensure a contractor has installation instructions.

Supporting the NHS through the Coronavirus pandemic

Our factory has been operational throughout the Coronavirus pandemic and we have been able to support the NHS by responding quickly to orders for furniture at several facilities, including Peterborough City Hospital, Hillingdon Hospital, Royal Preston Hospital and also furniture for mobile CT scanner units in Hull.
