Heatherwood Hospital, Ascot, Berkshire

This £98m transformation programme will deliver a 4-storey facility and will contain diagnostic facilities for cardiology, radiology, lithotripsy, physiotherapy and orthodontic treatment spaces. It will have six operating theatres and forty-eight inpatient beds, plus twenty-two day case cubicles, on a 11,500 sq m site. Within ten years of its opening, the aim is for the hospital to provide services for approximately 168,000 people each year, doubling what the existing hospital currently provides. In February 2020, there was a topping out ceremony and the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

Project design

A holistic approach has been taken by architects BDP, ensuring wellbeing is at the heart of the project. The overall design maximises links with nature, support and recovery and will create a calm and natural environment for the offices, primary care facility and the homes to come. Patient bedrooms will have views across the treetops and access to terraces. The cafe space will offer woodland views and there will be a large and biodiverse pond area and nearby nature walks.

Supporting the NHS through the Coronavirus pandemic

Our factory has been operational throughout the Coronavirus pandemic and we have been able to support the NHS by responding quickly to orders for furniture at several facilities, including Peterborough City Hospital, Hillingdon Hospital, Royal Preston Hospital and also furniture for mobile CT scanner units in Hull.
