Colour trends that have transformed healthcare furniture

Healthcare furniture colour trends

Most people will have heard that healthcare furniture is undergoing a colourful revolution, but many won’t be aware of which colours are proving to be more popular. Take a look at some of the most popular healthcare furniture colour trends that have been shaping the industry:

A connection to nature

A striking opposition to the traditional clinical interiors of hospitals, there has been a surge in furniture that evokes a sense of the great outdoors. Warm oranges with soft yellows and clear blues instil a greater sense of comfort in patients, in particular, those who need high levels of assistance, like the elderly. As we age, our vision becomes slightly more yellow, making strong colours all the more important as they can become subdued and contribute to low moods.

Bold and brave

Using bolder colours assists patients with connecting with their new surroundings. Having hallways and waiting rooms with different colour themes aids many in mapping the hospital or healthcare facility they’re in, which is especially useful for longer stays. It’s important to use these bolder colours sparingly, however, so that patients don’t become overwhelmed. Things like feature walls can help to instil a mood whilst balancing the energy with more soothing white tones. Brighter colours are most commonly used in waiting rooms and more public spaces in healthcare, as they’re more in line with the energy that groups of people offer. Small rooms for individuals may be overpowered by such bursts of colour.

Minimalism

Some healthcare facilities seem to be moving in the opposite direction, favouring minimalism to encourage patients to unwind and feel calm. Neutral tones in grey and beige suit a wide range of tastes and are in line with more traditional clean looks for hospitals. These schemes are perfect for rooms of patients, as bright colours aren’t always ideal for rest and sleep, as well as units where it’s essential for patients to recuperate from surgery. To avoid these colours looking too clinical, many hospitals have been embracing sandy tones and misty greys, again linking back to that feeling of nature.
